Music therapy for cancer patients

Music therapy; Music therapy is the clinical use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship facilitated by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.

In a controlled study of music therapy for autologous stem-cell transplant recipients, there was Unknownlessened mood disturbance in response to the therapy. Music therapy is a noninvasive and inexpensive intervention that appears to reduce mood disturbance in patients experiencing the stress of pending bone marrow transplantation (Cassileth et al. 2003).

Music therapy demonstrates pre-to-post session reductions in pain (Cholburi et al., 2004), while others found no difference in reductions in pain when music listening was compared with controls (Kwekkeboom et al. 2010).
